i-Protect – Self-Assessment

Great to see you’re part of your club’s leadership team and are interested in the i-Protect Club Badge.

The first step is to complete a short self-assessment – this should take around 5 minutes.

Before you begin There are a few FAQs at the bottom of this page, which you may find helpful to read first.

1 – The involvement of children and safeguards in place

Please read and answer all questions as carefully and honestly as you can.

There is a safeguarding policy in place containing clear procedures that provide step-by-step guidance on what action to take if there are concerns about a child’s safety or well-being and is clear that all children have equal rights to protection.(Required)

The policy covers your club’s commitment to safeguard children in all aspects of your club’s work and clearly describes your club’s understanding and definitions of all forms of harm.(Required)

Your club has consulted with children, parents/care-givers, and staff as part of the initial development and/or ongoing review of the policy.(Required)

2 – Procedures for responding to safeguarding concerns

There is an identified member of staff in your club responsible for leading on safeguarding.(Required)

Your club has arrangements in place to provide support to children, volunteers and staff during and following an incident, allegation or complaint.(Required)

Your club has a process for dealing with complaints in a fair and transparent way, that includes an appeals process.(Required)

All incidents, allegations and complaints are recorded, monitored and stored securely.(Required)

3 – Advice and support

Children are provided with advice and support on keeping themselves and one another safe.(Required)

Your system acknowledges that children with additional vulnerabilities (for example a disability) may face extra barriers to getting help.(Required)

Parents/caregivers in the wider community are provided with information, advice and support on safeguarding children.(Required)

4 – Minimising risks to children

If the risks are assessed as too significant then the activity does not go ahead.(Required)

Steps are taken to minimise any risks identified through risk assessments.(Required)

5 – Guidelines on behaviour

Your club has written guidelines for behaviour (codes of conduct) which contain statements about treating people with dignity, respect, sensitivity and fairness.(Required)

Your club has guidance around working with children who have a disability.(Required)

Your club has guidance around the appropriate use of information technology and social media to make sure that children are not put in danger and made vulnerable to exploitation.(Required)

There are clear consequences for not following the guidelines on behaviour that are linked to the club’s disciplinary procedures.(Required)

The highest level of management of the club has responsibility to ensure that the guidelines are followed.(Required)

Your club has consulted with children, parents/caregivers and staff as part of the initial development and/or ongoing review of your club’s guidelines on behaviour.(Required)

6 – Recruiting, training and communicating

Job descriptions contain statements about treating people with dignity, respect, sensitivity and fairness.(Required)

Your staff, volunteers and other relevant people have been trained on safeguarding and child protection, including how to report concerns and that safeguarding training is available to anyone.(Required)

The highest level of management in the club has responsibility to oversee the implementation of this training.(Required)

7 – Monitoring and evaluation

Your club regularly monitors and evaluates procedures for responding to safeguarding concerns.(Required)

Your club has consulted with children, parents/caregivers and staff as part of the initial development and/or on-going review of your monitoring and evaluation systems.(Required)

Do I need to complete all questions in the self-assessment?

Yes. Completing all the questions will help you and us know what is in place, or further needed, to enable you to secure the i-Protect Club Badge.

I don’t think these questions apply to our club setting – what should I do?

Please answer the questions to your best ability – we know not everything may apply to all club settings.

We have much of these in place already – can we get the i-Protect Club Badge immediately?

That’s great! You are already ahead, meaning it should make it quicker for you to secure the i-Protect Club Badge. That said, you must still complete all aspects of the programme.
